Tecomate’s Jordan Shipley Reviews his Favorite New Rocky Gear

RageRealtree

No different from when I was playing football, when I’m hunting, I prefer gear that’s lightweight, durable, and athletically fit so that I feel good and can hunt with confidence. That was actually kind of what drew me to Rocky when we began looking for a footwear and apparel sponsor (I had already loved their boots). Rocky has always been known for developing some of the most functional, best fitting performance apparel in the industry. Now that they sponsor me, I was able to try out some of their new gear early. One of my favorite new items in the Rocky Athletic Mobility apparel lineup is the “RAM” fleece jacket that just won “Best of the Best” award in Field and Stream magazine for this fall.  You won’t find a more comfortable, good looking and functional garment out there – I’ve been wearing it almost non-stop for the past month, it’s really a no-brainer.

I do a good bit of sitting and waiting for whitetails, but now that I’ve traded in my cleats for a bow, I can’t get enough of spot and stalk style hunting.  This September I was able to go after my first Wyoming whitetail, and followed that up with a Montana archery elk hunt and a public land archery elk hunt in New Mexico.  I knew on these two hunts I’d be covering a ton of country and would be in stealth mode a lot.  Before I went out on the September run, Rocky sent me some of their new Broadhead boots. The Broadheads are probably some of the lightest hunting boots I’ve ever worn – they’ve been tested to show that they’re around 33% lighter than most boots out in stores.  Boot weight makes a HUGE difference when you have to be able to sneak into close quarters with animals like elk and deer that have superior hearing.

Right out of the box, I felt how comfortable and lightweight the Broadheads were. I was definitely excited to try them out… but my main question was how durable they’d be when I put them through a gauntlet of physically challenging hunts. In both Montana and New Mexico we covered 15-20 miles a day on foot,  I was hiking through some seriously rough terrain…. and at the end of September I came away with two gorgeous elk, and my Broadheads are unfazed!
